The Project for Rural Road Network Planning in Northern Uganda

Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA)
Northern Uganda, Uganda
2010

Northern Uganda has the highest proportion of population living in poverty. This is mainly attributed to a 20 year insurgency which ended in 2006 leaving much of the basic infrastructure deteriorated. To improve the lives of the people living in the area, a master plan of the rural road network was prepared.

SRDP provided the following services for this study:

  • Transfer technical skills in GIS and CADD to counterpart personnel
  • Development of a comprehensive database covering Acholi Sub-region in Northern Uganda featuring an updated road network database to support various analysis works for the study
  • Database and GIS support to the multidisciplinary team

Sample Outputs:

Road Network Traffic Volume Time Zone Analysis
Land Cover (2005) Road Network & Gross Population Density (2007)
by Sub-county
